Children in today’s generation are not living as healthier lives as the children from the previous generations used to. Now they live in a hurry-up world of busy parents, school pressures, incessant lessons, video games, malls, and competitive sports. We normally don’t realize that these influences could be as stressful for the kids, but they are.

The children also go under various emotional changes as they are growing up. They have to deal with distractions, peer pressures, temptations, and sometimes provocations extensively. Amid all these things going on in the heads of the children, it is necessary that they learn to keep it calm. Yoga is a very fine way of doing that. It won’t cost any extra bucks, and instead will only gain positivity in the children.

Regular practice of Yoga is very beneficial for the children. One good reason because they are children and that they can be molded into good habits when they are kids. Here are some benefits of Yoga for the children.

Improves breathing

Children do not realize that proper breathing is very important. Therefore, with yoga, they learn how breathing exercises can energize them and make them relaxed. There should be variations in what is taught to them in yoga classes, as different games and techniques help kids to associate and understand how their bodies feel as a result of deep breathing. As a result of this understanding, their focus will increase along with their breathing and lung capacity. Children will then be automatically relieved of the stresses and feel active and energetic.

Not only the kids, but a lot of adults also have the misconception that yoga is mainly for body stretching. Yoga also builds strength. It teaches children that with increased focus they can also increase their attention naturally. It will greatly help the kids to deal with stress of regular chaotic life.


We already mentioned how substantial it is for the kids to be strong, but flexibility is required along with, or else it will be difficult for the bodies to yield under pressure. If the muscles are strong but not flexible enough then, there will be difficulty in quick movements due to pull on joints and bones. Yoga poses stretches the muscles and through integrating breathing and movement, muscles become warm and become more flexible. Once the muscles are flexible as strong they are, children can yield when they need to, and support tender joints in a more functional way.

Increases Awareness

Yoga is possibly the best way to inculcate awareness among the kids. It gives the children a way to express themselves, building strong connections between everything they hear and see with more focus. Kids who have healthy body awareness are more confident and strong, have better posture, breathe better and have a sense of quiet strength.


When the Yoga teachers put all the poses in a sequence, kids will begin to realize what it means to move with ease. It gives them an idea of how all the movements are a series of coordinated efforts between muscles, bones, joints and nerves. All these things together increases their sense of feeling integrated.


Meditation is part of yoga, and yoga is meditative by nature. So following any type of yoga poses, be it breathing, or balancing, or meditating, all of them will result in calming and soothing mind. A calm mind will relax them and allow them to grasp the good vibes around easily.

Teaching yoga to children is fun in itself, so not only teachers but parents at home should teach yoga and encourage it. To teach younger children the methods are different, like doing poses from the yoga books. With older children its a little easier as they also like to create their own poses.
